Flowing Organic Pieces

Yesterday Jonna sent me a link to these super cool images of varnish flowing in a bowl of water (see below the video). At first I was thinking they were 3D, but I discovered they were actually shot on a Canon Rebel. Pretty impressive.

So it's a coincidence that today I came across this video that seems similar to the varnish images but in motion (yes this is 3d). This piece below is titled 'Nokta', which is an abstract film about organic pieces.

'The Third & The Seventh' – Brilliant 3D Work

I'm first posting this stunning compositing breakdown video, which is a behind the scenes look into how the video below was created. This one has some of the best 3D and compositing work I have ever seen.

This is the main video, 'The Third & The Seventh', which is a little slow, but in a good way. It focuses on the architecture and the surrounding atmosphere. And believe it or not this WHOLE video is 3D. Mind blowing.

Avatarded in 3D

Visually speaking, 'Avatar', was the best movie I have ever seen. It was also our first movie seeing in 3D, which I must say was pretty awesome. If like me you have been pretty curious about all the 3D movie hype recently then I recommend this one as a great one to test-drive. I won't be seeing every movie from now on with the extra dimension, but for special fun ones, like the new 'Alice and Wonderland', I will make exceptions. So make sure you go see 'Avatar' in the theaters, you'll be happy you did, and so will Kirk Cameron.

Interview: Designer Paul Lee

GoMedia has a great interview with graphic designer Paul Lee which you can read HERE.

Specifically I love what he has to say about adding 3D into his designs, which is inline with my thinking lately as well:

Working in 3D has really opened up a whole new world of visual possibilities. My feeling is that in the next few years, knowledge of a 3D application will be par for the course for any designer. If it isn’t, I really think it should be. Animators and Illustrators have worked in 3D to amazing effect, but I really think it’s time for designers to bring their sensibilities to 3D. It’s a whole new dimension out there to be explored. It’s changed my design dramatically and visually, and it’s opened up a whole new space to play in.
